Felis silvestris silvestris (Schreber, 1775)

English: European Wildcat in her environment. The image was taken in the Wisentgehege Springe game park, near Springe, Hanover, Germany. The wildcat protects itself with two strategies: camouflage her body and defending their territory. The camouflage is done by brown color and vertical stripes on their fur and her face and by hiding behind plants and shrubs. To defend their territory, the wildcat guarding the lowest access to their territory. In their area there is a big tree. The fur of the wildcat has the same color and the same pattern as the bark of the tree. The wildcat lives on that tree, there it is protected through the camouflage of the coat.
Deutsch: Europäische Wildkatze in der Wildnis. Das Bild wurde aufgenommen im Wisentgehege Springe bei Springe in der Region Hannover, Deutschland. Das Wisentgehege ist als Fauna-Flora-Habitat ein Bestandteil des europäischen Schutzsystems Natura 2000. Die Wildkatze lebt auf diesem Baum, dort ist sie durch die Tarnfarbe des Felles geschützt.
